Senate Probes Maina’s Return, Secret Reinstatement As Director

The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the sudden return of the former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Pension, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina to the country.

Maina, who is on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) wanted list for an alleged N2bn fraud, was recently reinstated as a director in the Ministry of Interior.

The committee has been tasked with the responsibility of investigating the embattled former pension boss recall as a director.

After several deliberations, the lawmakers drafted the chairmen and vice- chairman of committees on Interior, Judiciary, Anti-corruption and Public Service Establishment to “determine the circumstances surrounding Maina’s return to the country and how he was reinstated to the service and got promoted to the post of Director after dismissal.”
