Tribunal Affirms Senator Elisha Abbo’s Election

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal for Adamawa State has declared Senator Elisha Abbo the authentic winner of the seat for Adamawa North in the Nigerian Senate.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Abbo winner after he garnered the most vote in the February 23, 2019 election. He ran on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

But his predecessor, Binta Garba of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenged his emergence as winner at the tribunal.

According to her, the election witnessed irregularities including over-voting, failure to use card readers, as well as intimidation of voters and party agents.

The court, in a ruling delivered, on Thursday, however, declared Abbo as the duly elected senator.

In reaction to his victory, Abbo said, “The voice of the people is the voice of Power. We have won our case at the tribunal. We would be forever victorious. Let’s give God the glory all the time. Thank you my people,” he posted.

Recall that two months ago, Abbo faced heavy backlash after a viral video showed him allegedly assaulting a woman when he visited a sex toy shop in Abuja.
