We Did Not Inaugurate Any State Executive In Ogun, Says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  has denied reports that it inaugurated some persons as State Officers of the Party in Ogun State on Friday, May 8, 2020.

The party in a statement issued by its National Chairman, Uche Secondus and National Secretary, Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri, said there was no such congress for the election of the party’s ward, local government area and state chapter in Ogun State.

The statement said there was no such election, because the party was obeying the interim order made by Justice Inyang Ekwo on March 4, 2020, directing the maintenance of the status quo until hearing of the motion on notice, which was still pending due to the disruption caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Furthermore, the statement advised all members of the public and appropriate institutions especially INEC, to ignore any “purported elections and inauguration of any officer of the party at any level in Ogun State as same is unconstitutional, null and void.”

According to the statement, it is the sole responsibility of INEC/NWC of the party to conduct congresses for the elections of party leaders at all levels of the party.

“No state organ or individual has such power except as may be expressly donated by the NEC/NWC and same has not been exercised with regards to Ogun State,” the statement reads in part.
