We Don’t Need TUC To Carry Out Protest— Ajaero

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Joe Ajaero has restated that the two-day nationwide protest is independent of the participation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and its affiliates.

Ajaero disclosed this during an interview with THE WHISTLER newspaper at the Labour House on Tuesday in Abuja.

Recall that the President of the TUC Festus Osifo said members of the Congress will not join the nationwide protest because the union was not ‘part of the plan’.

Responding to the TUC decision, Ajaero said, “The TUC is an independent union, not an affiliate of NLC. This protest was decided by the National Executive Council of NLC.

“The turnout is impressive, but we can not conclude because it’s a nationwide protest, and we will take into account reports from 36 states at the end of the protest to decide the way forward.”

When asked about the commitment of the federal government in fulfilling their October 2023 demands, he said, “After the warning, the federal government have started paying the wage award, but it’s not enough.”
