Why I Was Freed By EFCC – Ekweremadu

The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr Ike Ekweremadu, on Friday, revealed how he regained freedom from custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after his recent detention.

The EFCC had detained EKweremadu on Tuesday for questioning over alleged non-assets declaration, money laundering amongst others.

Reports had emerged that the Deputy Senate developed high blood pressure while in custody of the EFCC due to alleged evidence presented against him by anti-graft agency.

Refuting the reports, however, Ekweremadu, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, said he was released on administrative bail because he had informed the agency that he was “not feeling well” and not because he developed high blood pressure in custody as purported in the media.

Anichukwu told reporters that his principal had after Tuesday’s interrogation by the EFCC sought to attend to his health, hence was not interrogate on Wednesday.

“There was no interrogation whatsoever on Wednesday, let alone presentation of so-called additional “facts” that purportedly triggered his blood pressure,” said the Deputy Senate President’s media aide.

“It was agreed that a new date would be fixed for continuation of the interview,” said Anichukwu.
