Beirut Explosion: Lebanon Prime Minister Resigns

Lebanese Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, has resigned from office.

The announcement is coming days after an explosion in Beirut killed over 100 people, wounded over 5,000 and displaced about 300,000 residents.

Diab made the announcement in a national address on Monday.

“I declare today the resignation of this government. May God protect Lebanon,” he said.

Aljazeera reports that he stressed” that corruption in Lebanon is bigger than the state”.

He added that he was stepping down to join citizens in calling for good leadership.

He said he wanted to ” fight the battle for change alongside them.”

Recall that Lebanese had trooped out in anti-government protests, following the explosion that destroyed lives and properties.
