Edo Poll: NYSC Calls For Protection Of Corps Members Deployed For Election Duties

The National Youth Service Corps has called for the protection and safety of corps to be deployed in Edo for the forthcoming governorship election on September 19.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, made the appeal to all stakeholders on Thursday.

Ibrahim also visited the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II Ogidigan, in his palace.

He urged him to use his influence to educate residents that corps members were serving the interest of the country.

“I want to further solicit for the support of his majesty on the forthcoming election so that the good people of Edo State will see our corps members as their children.

“We want to ensure that our corps members are safe as we look forward to a hitch-free election”, the DG said, according to the Facebook page of the scheme.

He noted that ” the NYSC Management places high priority on the welfare and security of its corps members.”

On his part, the monarch stressed that the NYSC scheme was a good initiative for the country, adding that it fostered national unity.

He also joined in appealing to stakeholders to treat corps members with dignity and respect.

“We are happy with the NYSC scheme because it is a good concept for the nation.

“We are all working together to ensure that there is no violence and that corps members are not exposed to harm,” he said.
