#EndSARS: We’re Monitoring Unfolding Events In Nigeria -ICC

The International Criminal Court (ICC) says it has beamed its searchlight on the unfolding events associated with the EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

This was made known in a statement on Thursday by ICC’s Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda.

She said violation of fundamental human right was a breach of international law, liable for prosecution.

Meanwhile, she called for dialogue and restraint.

“My Office has been closely following the events around the current protests in Nigeria and the reaction of Nigeria’s law enforcement and security agencies.Any loss of life and injury is concerning.

“We have received information alleging crimes and are keeping a close eye on developments, in case violence escalates and any indications arise that Rome Statute crimes may have been committed.

“I call for calm and restraint,” the statement read.

Aside the ICC, the United Nations and the African Union had separately condemned the attacks trailing the protests.

The bodies called for lasting reforms in line with the yearnings of the peaceful protesters.

President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to address the nation by 7pm today.
