FG Behind Plot To Steal Senate’s Symbol Of Power – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of masterminding the invasion of the Senate and the theft of its symbol of authority recently.

Recall that some thugs suspected to be affiliated with Senator Ovie Omo-agege of Delta Central Senatorial District had stormed the upper legislative chamber and made away with its Mace. The Senate recovered the Mace only after 24 hours.

In his reaction to the incident, Governor Wike said on Sunday, at the 105th Annual Convention of the Nigerian Baptist Convention at Ndele, Emohua Local Government Area of the state, that the Senate invasion was an attempt to overthrow its leadership.

“They plotted to overthrow the leadership of the Senate, but they failed. What you saw was a horrible design to remove the Senate leadership,” said the governor.

“If you know the Security architecture of the National Assembly, nobody can go in easily and leave easily without the gates being shut. These people entered and left unchallenged.

“When the Senate gave the Police a 24-hour ultimatum to find the mace, our Nigerian Police became so efficient that they traced the Mace to where it was left under the bridge.”

Speaking further, Governor Wike urged Nigerians to vote out the current Federal Government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) if indeed they are tired of getting excuses for non-performance all the time.

“We are not looking for people who will give us excuses. Since they cannot work, they should allow those with capacity to take over in 2019,” he said.
