This was disclosed in a statement (dated November 9) published on US Department of State website, seen by THE WHISTLER.

“The United States and Nigeria look forward to convening a virtual meeting with members of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS on November 10 to affirm the Coalition’s commitment to countering the threat of ISIS and its branches worldwide, including in West Africa, and to supporting ongoing international efforts in the region.

“The meeting will outline the ISIS threat in West Africa and focus on ways the Coalition can strengthen its collective approach in specific areas, such as battlefield evidence and border security.

“The United States, and the 82-member global Coalition it leads, remain fully committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS and its branches, which is critical to U.S. national security and that of our partners and allies,” it stated.

On its part, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), having realized the destruction associated with terrorism, had stressed that a coordinated effort was required to address it.

“Finally, given the spate of terrorist attacks in Niger and across West Africa, ECOWAS Commission renews its commitment to fight terrorism in all its forms and search for a lasting solution under the regional counter-terrorism plan, in order to enhance peace and security for the well-being of our people and economic development of our Member States,” it stated in a press release.
