Olympics: Quadri Shocks Top Seed Chih-Yuan Chuang To Reach Fourth Round

Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri shocked fifth seed Chih-Yuan Chuang of Tawain to advance into the fourth round of the table tennis men’s singles event at the on-going Rio Olympic.

The game which was played in the early hours of Monday saw Quadri outclass the Taiwanese 4-0, to record his biggest win of his career so far.

Chuang was clearly the favourite, he is ranked seventh in the world and seeded fifth for the Olympics. He reached the semi-finals at the London 2012 Olympics.

Quadri won the first set 11-6 before claiming the second, third and fourth 12-10, 11-6 and 11-7 respectively, to advance into the next round.

Quadri had previously beaten Slovakia’s Wang Yang 4-1 in round 2.

His victory ensures Africa will get another representative in Game Four, which comes up on Monday.
