Omokri Blasts Ambode: Declaring Holiday Over Buhari’s Visit Vindicates Bill Gates

Amazon bestselling author, Reno Omokri, has lampooned the Akinwunmi Ambode-led Lagos government for declaring Thursday as public holiday over President Buhari’s visit to the state.

Ambode’s declaration of the public holiday comes as President Buhari has been billed to commission a bus terminal in the state.

But Omokri, who is an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, said Ambode’s action has vindicated Bill Gates that Nigerian leaders prioritise physical capital over human capital.

He said it is insensible for the state government to ask workers and business owners in the state to sit at home just because the president is visiting the state.

Tweeting on Wednesday, Omokri said, “When Bill Gates said President Muhammadu Buhari prioritizes physical capital over human capital, people like Governor Elrufai came out to attack him. But just a week after Mr Gates said truth to power, Buhari is going to Lagos and they declared a public holiday for him. Does this not vindicate Bill Gates?

“By declaring a holiday and preventing businesses from opening for work, the APC government is setting back human capital because of the physical capital of opening a bus stop. This is a pure example of why Bill Gates said Buhari prioritizes physical capital over human capital.

“It’s hard to understand the logic behind declaring a public holiday and shutting down Lagos because Buhari is commissioning a bus station. A bus station, not even an airport or a major road. What will happen if Buhari were to commission a power station? Would they close down Nigeria?,” Omokri queried.

The WHISTLER recalls that Microsoft founder, Mr Gates had, at the National Economic Council on Investment in Human Capital that recently in at the State House in Abuja, criticised the Federal Government’s economic blueprint.

The Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation said the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) hardly shows that the Buhari government has the people’s interest at heart.

“The Nigerian government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan identifies “investing in our people” as one of three “strategic objectives”. But the “execution priorities” don’t fully reflect people’s needs, prioritizing physical capital over human capital,” the American Billionaire had said during his recent visit to the country.

Speaking on CNN after leaving Nigeria, Mr Gates told the international broadcaster that: “As a partner in Nigeria, I am saying the current plan is inadequate. Nigeria has all these young people and the current quality and quantity of investment in these young generations; in health and education just isn’t good enough. So, I was very direct.

“If they can get health and education right, they will be an engine of growth not just for themselves but for all of Africa,” Gates said.
