PDP Senator Abba Moro Turns Against Party Member, Ningi Over Budget Padding Allegation

Abba Moro, a senator representing Benue South on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday moved against his colleague, Abdul Ningi.

Moro said Ningi from Bauchi State must “apologise to the Senate” for the allegation that the 2024 budget was padded.

The Bauchi senator was called to explain to his colleagues during plenary over his interview he granted the BBC Hausa where he raised some key issues concerning N3trn in the budget without line items.

Moro, while speaking, said he was angry over Ningi’s interview as it had brought the Senate into disrepute.

He said “we must refrain from talking like children and conduct ourselves in the manner that befits” the Senate.

He alleged that he was duly nominated as the Minority Leader and that “if you don’t get something,” it meant it was not his colleague’s turn.

“As a minority leader I would not just stand to criticise the government. What we want is growth,” he stated as to the reason why he did not agree with his party member, Ningi.

His speech came after the rowdy session that followed Ningi’s allegation of 2024 budget discrepancies and Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe’s allegation that “some ranking senators were paid N500m each but I didn’t get anything.”

Jarigbe, a PDP member from Cross River State had said while some ranking senators got N500m, he got nothing “but I did not go to the press.”
