SARS: Wike Bans Protests In Rivers, Threatens To Prosecute Violators

The River State Government has imposed a ban on all forms of protests against the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police.

“The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State.

“Therefore, all proposed protests under #End SARS Campaign are hereby prohibited,” Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, stated in a Facebook post on Monday.

Amid the dissolution of SARS by the federal government, Nigerians were still calling for an end to police brutality.

But, Nsirim maintained that since the squad had been scrapped, there was no need for protests.

The state government also urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against coming out to protest, adding that there would be consequences.

“Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

“Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.

“Parents and Guardians are therefore advised to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.

“Law enforcement agencies are also directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book,” he stated.
