Manchester United has progressed to the final of the English League Cup after a 3-2 aggregate win over Hull City in the second leg of the semi-final on Thursday night.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 at the KCOM stadium, but Jose Mourinho’s side still made it to the final as they came into the game with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, and will now play Southampton in the final at Wembley Stadium on February 26.

Tom Huddlestone gave the hosts the lead by converting a 35th-minute penalty, awarded for Marcos Rojo’s tackle on Harry Maguire.

Paul Pogba pulled from close range just after the hour mark, before on-loan striker Ousmane Niasse scored the winning goal on the night for the Tigers, 5 minutes to time.

“Good performance, good spirit, good attitude,” said Hull manager Marco Silva, who has injected some self-belief and organization into an injury-hit team since being hired on Jan. 5. “Maybe the last goal at Old Trafford in the last minutes made the difference.”

It was United’s first loss since a 2-1 defeat at Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Nov. 3, and a first defeat to Hull since 1974 – a run of 14 games.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick said: “We’re disappointed the way we played, It’s a strange feeling, we wanted to keep our run going.”

Also Speaking after the game, United manager Jose Mourinho took a swipe at Liverpool Jurgen Klopp after his side were knocked out of the competition by Southampton on Wednesday.

Klopp said the wind had made conditions difficult in Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Southampton and Mourinho made fun of that that remark when he was asked if United were the favourites for the trophy.

“I don’t think we are favourites against nobody,” the Portuguese said. “It doesn’t matter where we play, against who, we are never favourites. Normally the stadium is windy and it’s difficult.”
