In his usual manner and what has become a year after year intervention project, the UNUBIKO FOUNDATION, a non-governmental organization, has contributed significantly to the education sector by paying the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) fees of about 200 indigent candidates in Ovukwu Abam Secondary School Atan Abam and Onyerubi Comprehensive Secondary School Ndi Oji Abam.

Chief Ume, a media consultant who was represented by Hon Goodwill Ironma said that the beneficiary students were drawn from Ndi Okereke, Ndi Oji, Ndi Agwu Atan and other neighboring villages in Abam Community.

According to him, the gesture was borne out of a desire to preserve the legacies of his late mother, who had a strong passion for education

Recall that the above two schools were recently rebuilt and transformed into modern world-class schools by Chief James Ume.

Ume had, also, through the Unubiko Foundation awarded scholarship to Abia students and non-Abians in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Unubiko Foundation has also drilled over 50 boreholes across communities in Abam, paid hospital bills for Abia residents as well as built a customary court in Amaelu Abam, Arochukwu LGA, among others.

In 2022, Chief Ume was awarded the Independent Newspaper’s Philanthropist of the Year Award and the Sun Newspapers Humanitarian Service Icon Award.

Speaking after receiving the award , Ume emphasized the importance of serving humanity and downplayed any desire for attention, stating, “I believe we are serving humanity, we are serving God, so, we don’t need any self-seeking attention. When you give to people, you are giving back to God.”
