The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has debunked rumours stating that it has changed the pattern of voting.
According to the rumour which has made rounds on social media platforms, “you don’t vote with your thumb anymore, you vote with your index finger.
“Any vote cast with the thumb is void (cancelled) vote,” the rumour had stated.
But the electoral body, in a rebuttal, said any finger can be used to cast vote, adding that the voter only has to ensure that the mark is inside the box of the political party of his or her choice.
The statement said “at the point of registration, all ten fingers were captured. So any finger can be used for marking a ballot paper.
“Make sure that your mark is inside the box of your party of choice and does not stray into another box.”
ON WHICH FINGER TO VOTE WITH
A voter can use any finger to vote but should ensure that his or her mark is clear and placed inside the box of the political party of his or her choice and does not stray into another box.
