Winners Emerge In FCCPC National Young Consumers Contest
Winners have emerged in the sixth edition of the National Young Consumers Contest which was organised by the Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
The FCCPC in line with its consumer education mandate organized the competition to engage the youths in advocacy to increase consumer awareness.

It is also aimed at ensuring that consumers interests receive appropriate attention.
The competition is also an initiative that is targeted at young people in secondary schools and the programme has led to the formation of consumer clubs in schools.
Speaking at the competition on Thursday in Abuja, the Chief Executive Officer, FCCPC, Mr Babatunde Irukera described the theme of this year’s contest “Sustainable consumption: The role of consumers in addressing plastic waste pollution.” as apt.
He said the purpose of the event is to promote interest in consumer issues such as quality and consumer rights.

Represented by Dr Abdulahi Adamu, the FCCPC Boss said, “The topic for this year’s contest is apt because it is a germane issue all around the world. We have to take this issue very seriously because it us affecting us both in the land and sea level and we ve been taking measures to address these issues.”
He explained that the FCCPC received many entries from various schools in Nigeria, adding that the programme is designed to stimulate awareness on topical consumer issues.
Through this, he said the FCCPC will be able to improve young people’s consciousness and understanding of consumer rights, including enforcement mechanisms.
The competition saw Government College Keffi emerging the winner of the flier category while Queens Model Secondary school, Enugu and Ebira Muslim Community College, Okengwe, Okene, Kogi came second and third respectively.
For the video category, the first position went to Government College Keffi,while Monef High School Ikot Ibom Ita Itum Akwa Ibom and You-Nik International Technopreneurship Secondary School Lafia came second and third in that order.
