WUSE UNREST: FCT Police Arrest Correctional Officer Over Death Of Convict

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested the Correctional officer who allegedly killed a convict, which led to civil unrest in the Wuse Market area of the city.

The command disclosed this in a statement, signed by its spokesperson, Josephine Addeh.

THE WHISTLER reported how a trigger-happy correctional service officer shot Ibrahim Yahaya, 27, convicted at a mobile court that sits every Tuesday in Wuse Market.

The convict, in an attempt to escape, jumped off the moving vehicle, and “two armed corrections personnel who were in the vehicle went after him and in the process, shot him.”

The police identified the officer as CA2 Usman Ishaya Magaji, who is presently in police custody as the investigation is ongoing.

The deceased, Yahaya until his death resided in the Gishiri village of Mabuchi, a suburban area of the FCT.

The reasons for his arrest are unknown but a preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Yahaya was arrested by operatives of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) Task Force.

When he was shot at, irate mobs who witnessed the situation torched eight vehicles and 10 shops in the environment, an earlier statement from the police said.

“The whole fire situation erupted uproar from residents but was brought under control by the combined effort of Federal fire service and other security agencies present,” the police had said.
