All Ebonyi Cultists ‘Will Be Taken To Abuja’ After Arrest – Gov Umahi

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr Dave Umahi, Sunday, vowed that those behind various cult activities in the state would be fished out and brought to book. Umahi made the vow at a thanksgiving service at the Christ Embassy, Mile 50 Layout, Abakaliki. The service was to commemorate God’s favour on him and his family.

While admitting that the state was infested with cultists, the governor said that his administration would commence the war against cultism in earnest.

In his words, “I’ll not spare anybody that is involved in it. The trouble I will make with such persons will not be in the state. The cultists will be taken to Abuja, and those arrested will give us the names of cultists in Ebonyi, and we will come after them.”

Pertaining to the closure of Kingdom Model Secondary School, private school at Ezza South Local Government Area, over alleged cult activities, Gov Umahi said, “People can write what they like, but I cannot offend God with my position. They wrote that the school was shut because its proprietor refused to join the All Progressive Congress (APC), but the question remains, ‘who is such a person in the society?’”

Our correspondent in Abakaliki reported that the chairman of Ezza South LGA, Mr Ken Eze, recently shut Kingdom Model Secondary School, a private school owned by a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the local government area, Mr Friday Agbom. The council chairman claimed the school had become a hub for criminals. However, the state chapter of the PDP said the school was closed because of the refusal of Mr Agbom to decamp to the APC in solidarity with the governor.

In another development, Gov Umahi has directed that all schools in the state conclude their 2020 academic activities by Dec 17, 2020, adding that with the re-surging of the coronavirus pandemic, plans had been concluded for the distribution of palliatives at the various polling units in the state between Dec 18 and Dec 20.

According to him, “We should be wise and prayerful because they said that Covid-19 is coming back. I have also directed the state ministry of finance to find money, and ensure that all civil servants in the state receive a bag of rice and 10 percent bonus of their salaries for the Christmas celebrations.”
