COVID-19: Katsina Govt Receives 92,370 Doses Of Moderna Vaccines

Katsina State Government has received 92,370 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, as Nigeria prepares to commence the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

The Executive Secretary, Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Shamsuddeen Yahaya disclosed this in a statement.

According to the ES, the vaccines which was received by the State Commissioner For Health, Yakubu Nuhu, will be distributed across the 34 Local Government Areas of the state.

”The Moderna vaccine will be used for the second phase of the COVID-19) vaccination which will be administered to people 18 years and above.

”The first phase of the vaccination, which was the Astrazeneca vaccine, was administered to only health workers, frontline health workers and also strategic leaders.

“We begun training of health workers who will conduct the exercise which hopefully will start next week,” he said.

The federal government had flagged-off the second phase vaccination program in Abuja on Monday, having received new doses of vaccines including 4,000,080 doses of Moderna vaccines and 176,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines and 699,760 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines.

Recall, Nigeria in the first phase had vaccinated a total of 2,534,205 people with the first dose, while 1,404,205 received both first and second doses.

Similarly, 4,550 cases of mild/moderate Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) were recorded, with 148 cases considered to be severe.

The 176,000 doses came in as part of the 29,850,000 doses that the Federal Government procured from the AFREXIM Bank through the African Union, while the Moderna vaccines were donated by the government of the United States.
