Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has questioned CAF’s decision to keep awarding major tournaments to Morocco, calling for Nigeria to bid for Nations Cup hosting rights.
The North Africans have hosted the 2025 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, the CAF Awards ceremonies, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in recent months.
Oshoala said Morocco has enjoyed unfair hosting privileges, implying that CAF is compensating the country by granting them the rights for tournaments.
She wrote on X: “The big question here is when will this whole @CAF_Online compensation to Morocco end. Awards, tournaments and all… it’s getting boring now. We need other countries to step up. Everything concerning African football happens in Morocco — feels like that’s the new HQ.”
Similarly, Nigerians on social media corroborated Oshoala’s claims, calling on CAF to consider other countries.
Olumide Idowu urged CAf to ensure broader inclusion and balance.

He wrote on X: “It’s a valid concern, because when awards, tournaments, and decisions repeatedly center around one country, it risks undermining fairness and confidence in African football, and CAF must ensure broader inclusion and balance across the continent.”
Otunba Kwame criticised CAF for favouring Morocco.
He wrote on X: “CAF is shameless organisation, they are now dancing to Morrocco’s tune, bunch of incompetent old people running African football.”
Dreal Pharaoh called on Nigeria to invest in Sports development.
He wrote on X: “I keep saying this as well, Nigeria needs to invest heavily in sport, take Benue State for example every Benue man is a potential star in sport or the other but zero to no investment throws out talents away. Oh naija my country.”

As at the time of filing this report, CAF is yet to respond to Oshoala’s comments.
