Real Can Pip Barca To La Liga Crown – Zidane

A three-horse race for the Spanish championship was cut down to two on Sunday as Zinedine Zidane’s men and Barca both won at home against Valencia and Espanyol respectively, but Atletico Madrid lost 2-1 to already relegated Levante.

Real moved up to second place, one point behind Barca ahead of their trip to Deportivo, while Luis Enrique’s men travel to Granada.

The Catalans seems to have the upper hand with their superior goal difference, however, Zidane insists he has not given up hope of lifting the trophy in one of the tightest title races in years.

Victory at Deportivo la Coruna next weekend allied to a Barca slip-up will hand Madrid the title.

“I am always positive. Now we are second, there is one game to go and anything can happen. In football you never know what is going to happen” said Zidane.

“We have to give everything and keep going until the end and we will see what happens.

“We have a match which will not be easy. I never saw an end to the season as tight as this when I was a player. We will see what happens right up until the end, until the very last minute.

“The first part is our part. It won’t be an easy game and we know that.”

Since taking over from Benitez in January, Madrid have won 20 of their 25 games and are in the Champions League final.

The Frenchman added: “The objective we had fixed was to get into second and now there is just one match left to try and go top.

“Granada are safe [from relegation] and will play the match as they have to. The important thing is that we do too.

“We have won 11 in a row and we want to show we’ll continue to search for these two trophies.”
