The Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Friday, has banned all consultants and agents in the state from collecting revenue on behalf of the government for suffocating 10, 000 day-old-chicks, and killing over 3, 000 of them in the process.

With the ban, all companies and commercial organisations generating revenue for the state government were directed to henceforth liaise with the state board of internal revenue, and make all payments directly to the state treasury savings accounts.

The governor gave the orders during the state executive council meeting after listening to the submission of the state commissioner for livestock development on the killing of the chicks.

THE WHISTLER reports that the Imo State task force officials, aided by some police operatives, recently in Owerri impounded a Toyota Siena bus which was carrying about 10, 000 day-old-chicks. Their unprofessional action, it was gathered, led to the death of over 3, 000 of the chicks as a result of their exposure to heat despite pleas from relevant individuals.

Our correspondent in Owerri was told that, “The task force had demanded the Imo State emblem from the mini-van driver, even though the vehicle had a consolidated emblem said to be a permit for vehicles that often travel across various states in the country. The vehicle was said to have driven into the state from the northern part of the country.”
