We’re Going Ahead With Strike, Protest In Oyo – Labour Unions

Labour unions in Oyo State have vowed to go ahead with the planned strike action and mass protest against some policies of the Federal Government.

The immediate past Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Oyo State, Mr Andrew Emelieze, told our correspondent on Sunday night that all labour unions held a last-minute meeting on the issue and resolved to go ahead with the actions.

 Emelieze, who is the National Coordinator of All Workers Convergence, said, “We will go ahead with the struggle come what may.  We meet by 8am at the Labour House, Agodi Gate.”

The Vice Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Oyo State, Gbenga Olowolafe, also said the masses have a role to play, urging them to come out and join what he called the struggle to liberate the country from bad leadership.

A Professor of Micro-Biology formerly at the Kola Daisi University, Adenike Ogunshe, had during a workshop to sensitise labour leaders on the need to fight for the people, said Nigerians had been let down many times.

She, however, urged the labour leaders to use this opportunity to redeem their image and be ready to be counted in the struggle for good governance in the country.

A lecturer at the Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Prof Kola Babarinde, who is also the Secretary of Socialists Congress of Nigeria, said Nigerians must stand up against bad governance. 

The Chairman of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Dr Samuel Adeyemi, also said the labour unions must provide effective leadership while urging the masses to join the movement.
